How much fruit do you think there really is in Fruit Loops?

Lets think about packaged foods that use key words on the packaging to grab your attention,

Like the "Fruit" in -Fruit Loops, how much fruit is really in fruit loops?, Can anyone tell me what the sugar content is per serve?
Or the "grain" in Nutra Grain?

They both sound healthy enough, look at the nutrition table - they are loaded with sugar! and what else?

Can you think of any others?, can you look in your pantry and find me some examples?

Look for products where words or images on the packaging makes it look and sound healthy.

I think you'll find more than one example.

Latest Headline News ...

I have attached a very interesting article regarding food manufacturers using cartoon characters to persuade us to buy their products.

This subject is a hot topic in the media at present

What are your thoughts about this article?

(we will looking over this article in class today)

Have you ever pleaded with your parents to buy you foods that have displayed your favourite cartoon character or super hero on the product?

I am sure you have, this is why this kind of advertising works.
It is sometimes referred to as "Bait Advertising"

Perfect example of misleading information to encourage us to buy sweets...

photo from examiner.com

Good morning Students,

I found this article in recent days on news.com.  It is interesting to see a well know company like Nestle (Nestle makes chocolate and sweets) giving the media information about their product that is misleading...

They are trying to say that eating Jelly Babies will contribute to your daily recommended intake of fruit and vegetables, Do you really think that sounds right?

Read the article and let me know your thoughts?

Mrs Neale answers the questions?

Good Morning Students

I enjoy many foods, and I don't think I am a fussy eater. This makes my meal times loaded with many varieties every time I prepare food!.  I absolutely love cooking, do you?  I cook something nice every weekend, mainly cakes. I love home made cakes!!

Click here for one of my favourite "Healthy Banana cake receipes"

I love shopping for unusual foods, I like to visit some of the big fresh food markets here on the coast.

HINT: never go grocery shopping on a empty stomach?,
Do you know why?
let me know your thoughts...

I do have a weakness for sweets and chocolates.  I notice when I eat alot of chocolate and cakes everyday,  I do put on weight fast and I start to feel a little slugish at night time before I go to bed. I know alot of chocolate is not good for me, so I do not try to eat too much of it, this is hard for a chocolate lover!

I enjoy most vegetables, but I dont like brussell spouts or kidney beans, and I dont like oysters!

I dont like any high impact exercise, but I do walk at least 4 times a week, to maintain a steady level of fitness.

My definition of a health eater is: some one who does not indulge in eating the wrong foods all the time (eg. sweets, chocolate and fatty foods). These foods are to be only a small part of your diet,

A healthy person would make sure they eat foods from at least 4 of the
food groups, daily !

Do you already know what the
food groups are?

Check out the blogs within your group, do you have the same likes and dislikes with food?

Do you have any healthy recipes you can share with us on your blog ?

Tell me a bit about your eating habits 3D?

Ok lets talk about food ....

Welcome to the Nutrition Expedition blogger, it’s full of

 nourishing thoughts!!!

I’d like to tell you about some of the exciting learning activities we will be covering over the next 8 weeks.

We will be learning about nutrition, good health and wellbeing. These are all words you might of heard often enough, but what do they all actually mean?  Healthy foods habits should start from a young age...

YES, THATS YOU I AM TALKING ABOUT 3D !!!

Did you know that over 80% of school children don’t eat enough of the healthy foods their body needs for proper nourishment? This is not good, our students from 3d are not going to be part of that group!  This learning journey will hopefully give you some knowledge and understanding of the 5 food groups and maybe have you taking a closer look at your diet and really start looking at nutrition and what “good health” actually means.
